Dedication

While writing this book on a topic I am passionate about, it is a little too easy to believe that what I write originated in my own mind and came from my head like Athena from Zeus. Of course, this is ludicrous. Ego can obscure truth. Most of this book is a rewriting and interpretation of the knowledge and wisdom of my colleagues and predecessors. I think Yogi Berra or Mark Twain or Ralph Waldo Emerson said something to the effect of: “All of my best thoughts were stolen by the ancients.” In the case of this book, most of what I might believe are my thoughts were borrowed and reinterpreted from colleagues, contemporaries, predecessors, and perhaps some of the ancients. My thanks to all of you. I kneel on the shoulders of giants.
